The project "Gençler Geleceğin Mutfağında" (Youth in the Kitchen of the Future) is led by Neslihan Demez, assistant professor at the Department of German Translation and Interpreting, Istanbul University. This initiative is realized in collaboration with Nişantaşı University and is supported by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey.
It is well known that technology and media tools influence our eating and consumption habits. The project aims to contribute to the promotion of traditional Turkish cuisine through a multilingual digital platform by creating content tailored for this purpose. The objective is to disseminate knowledge about this culinary culture through digital media, allowing it to be (re)interpreted within the multicultural and multilingual world of our day.
The project aims to introduce traditional Turkish meals, including the narratives of their emergence, and highlight nutrition’s significance within broader Turkish culture. The target audience encompasses individuals proficient in at least one of the following languages: German, French, English, or Turkish, and/or native or non-native users of Turkish sign language. Workshops with diverse groups within the project team and text/subtitle translation works have provided opportunities for multifaceted experiences for achieving this goal.
